Where to look for Fossils at Cayton Bay


(Filey) - 2006

The best area to collect is the foreshore. Look for nodules as some of these can contain shrimps. The foreshore is also full of bivalves and gastropods on the foreshore exposures. You may need scouring conditions and a low tide for these exposures though.

At the waterworks at low tide, examine the calcareous sandstone which yields a range of fossils.

Cliff and foreshore exposures of Oxford Clay are also a good place to look.
